ELIZABETH SAFLEUR - Fabulous interview with erotic romance writer ~ Elite Doms of Washington series

Aloha everyone! Today I have the fabulous fellow erotic romance writer and one of the original five of The Flush and Blush Club here with me!! Elizabeth Safleur. She writes the steamy Elite Doms of Washington series. The classy seductive tales out of the nations Capitol.

So a big warm aloha and welcome Elizabeth, great to have you here today. :-)

Tell our readers a wee bit about yourself. What are 5 things you wished you’d done, have done or are still wanting to do, on the Bucket List? J

1.   I have always wanted to go to the Cannes Film Festival. I’m probably over-romanticizing the reality of it. But I love the idea of hanging with celebrities on the French coast, wearing something chic and French-like.

2.   Learn to pay the guitar.

3.   Throw a masquerade ball, complete with jester dressed up in harlequin outfits and a modern, string orchestra.

 4.   Build my dream house. My husband and I have our dream land, now we just need to win the lottery (or I sell a lot of books!) in order to build our “final resting place.”

5. Along with number four, I’d like to adopt several rescue Westies and Scotties and give them their forever home.

Tell us about the genre you write, why do you love it and how did you get into it?

I write erotic romance. I can’t imagine writing a genre where people don’t love, have sex, and connect on a deep intimate level. I have always written stories in my head; in fact, the first Elite Doms of Washington book came to me in 1996. It wasn't until 2014 that I finally got it down! I took a six week sabbatical from work due to burnout, and I ended up writing the first draft. Let’s just say erotic romance can be quite therapeutic for both reader and writer.

What’s your most favorite restaurant in the world? Where, why and the best dish/es they make?

My most favorite restaurant is Momma’s Fish House in Maui. I don’t recall the exact entree I had, but it as fish and delicious. The desert I could never forget – The Black Pearl Chocolate mousse dessert.

Remember those ads for Expedia (if not, just play along) that asked, ‘If you could go anywhere in the world, but have to go right now?’ Where would you have gone and would you have said to YES to right now? What pulls and entices you to that country?

I’d drop everything (provided I could make time stand still here at home, so nothing would pile up!) to go on a yacht sailing trip in the Mediterranean. Notice, I wrote “yacht.” Extra luxurious, please.

What parts of you, are incorporated into your characters?

I’d say the independence in my heroines are definitely “me.” But, they are much braver than I am. They explore, stand up for themselves more than I do, and most definitely lay their heart on the line. Their desire to have a career and express themselves either through their job or other endeavor is probably like me, as well. Other than that, their lives are a whole lot more interesting than mine!

Favorite male hero/public figure you admire in the world, dead or alive, and why?

Tough one. Today I’ll say Bono. The man has used his life well – a musician, philanthropist and empowering force on humanitarian issues. He also spent a lot of time really getting to know the issues. He’s not a celebrity figure head.

Favorite female heroine/public figure you admire in the world, dead or alive, and why?

Eleanor Roosevelt. That woman created her life, from top to bottom, under the most difficult circumstances. Her level of service is unsurpassed, all while people made fun of her. Well, didn't she have the last laugh?

Can you tell I admire people who “use” their lives well?

Have you ever had a character just “do their own thing?” Have you ever had an argument with one of your characters? Or anything else odd happen?

OMG, yes. I’m having a battle right now with London Chantelle, the heroine in my second Elite Doms of Washington novel (out March 5, 2015). It turns out London has a masochistic streak. I did NOT see that coming. I kept asking her, “are you sure? I mean, like really, really sure?” She looked me dead in my mind’s eye and responded, “Hey, you’re the one who said characters have to ring true, right? So give Carson the cane. Now.” She’s my alpha sub.

What’s your passion in life?

Creating. I love to write, choreograph dance routines, throw dinner parties, decorate the house, you name it. Engaging in the “something-didn’t-exist-and-now-it-does” kind of creation is my most favorite thing in the world. P.S. I also am passionate about my dog, a little Westie. No one will ever love me as much as my dog.

What’s your writer’s routine? Do you write whenever or at certain times? Are you a pantser or plotter? Where do you like to write?

I can write for long stretches of time – like eight hours. But not every day allows for that. Given I have a full-time day job most of my writing is done on Sundays and evenings. I am NOT good at writing anything good in small increments. Hats off to the mommy-career woman writers who write at soccer games, at ballet practices and in the dead of night. I’m also a hybrid plotter/pantser. I start with a rough outline of the novel and then just start writing. It often ends up vastly different than anticipated. (See London Chantelle above.)

If you could pick a past life, what time period would appeal to you and why? Would you be male or female? Rich or poor?

If I could import hygiene practices and a personal space heater, I’d like to go back to the Viking era. Of course, this could just be my Eric Northman fantasies. :-) But, seriously, the idea of exploring the world with a tall, gorgeous, virile Viking by my side? Yummy. Oh, and most people don’t realize that women went with the men on voyages, fought with them, and basically had more equality than you’d see in an early civilization like that. Maybe that’s why the Scandinavian countries are light years ahead of us in women’s health, equality, and environmental issues?

LOVELY

Can you have love and power at the same time? At 19, Christiana Snow is about to find out. Always uncertain and shy, a chance encounter with Congressman Jonathan Brond could finally fulfill her longing for adventure. He proposes a summer of sexual submission that proves to be both rewarding and dangerous.

Jonathan, seductive and selfish, lures Christiana to his country home where he blindfolds and lashes her to his bed, slowly awakening her senses and her natural submissive desires.

He promises her many more unimagined pleasures over long, hot Washington summer weekends. But, she must be his exclusively and keep their relationship secret – especially from her father, Peter Snow, a well- known political reporter. Christiana agrees, sure her father would sacrifice even his daughter for a good story. He has never been the same since Christiana's mother died many years ago.

When Peter leaves Washington to cover the presidential primaries in neighboring states, Christiana believes it's a sign from the Universe that she is free to explore with no one watching her back. But, is she?

Christiana’s friend and budding socialite Avery Churchill has set her sights on Jonathan, sure they would be perfect together. Beautiful and vain Avery is not used to losing, and Christiana finds keeping her relationship with Jonathan from Avery, difficult at best.

While Christiana’s courage - and desires - grow under Jonathan’s intense sexual instruction, involving hard spankings, silk gags and being taken, everywhere, she wonders if she can keep up. Then when Jonathan uncovers other facets of his mountain home, revealing hidden, suspension units and unique sexual desires, she finally has to admit Jonathan’s proclivities may have a dark side.
