Meg Amor ~ Interview ~ Romance Erotica Writer ~ PART 2 ~ Blog Chat Questions!!!

Aloha everyone! Today I'm putting up the second part of the Blog Chat interview we did on Tuesday. MEG AMOR ~ Romance Erotica Writer. There are a list of interesting and fun questions the authors are being asked. Not all my readers made it over there on Tuesday, so I'm posting the answers on here all week as well.
Thanks to all the readers who have been popping in and reading each week! I really appreciate you all. :-) If you ever want to catch up during the week on other things, I'm always over at The Lush and Blush Club on FB.
What do you enjoy reading the most in terms of romance erotica? Do you write what you like to read?

I love the m/m, ménage and that’s what I write too. Although, I mostly write committed troika or ménage relationships with my three main characters. If I’m not writing about them though, I write m/f. Let’s face it. I like it all. LOL. I love romance and sex. I think they’re a normal healthy part of life. To be celebrated…

How has your background influenced your work?
I’m a therapist by trade. And you’ll see that interspersed through my books in various ways. I want to know the deeper reasons people do what they do. I love knowing people’s inner thoughts and feelings. My characters tend to reflect my own need for that.

Favorite television program?

I don’t watch TV much, but when I do, I love Dancing With The Stars, Longmire, Hawaii 50, Blue Bloods, Modern Family, The Amazing Race. I don’t know if I could pick a favourite

Brunch or late night supper?
Ooh, tough one. I do love a good brunch. I could eat breakfast type food all day long. Brunch then. LOL.

Favorite restaurant in the world? Best dish?
Alan Wong’s ~ The Restaurant. Out of Honolulu on Oahu. Perfect fusion food, gorgeous elegant setting ~ 5 star. Just fabulous! Favorite dish? Also, a hard question. They have a tasting menu which I always get and it’s all superb. I do love their ‘soup and sandwich.’ And their fish dishes… And their chocolate crunch bars… Hmmm… I LOVE IT ALL. LOL. Oh, and their Bully’s Pineapple Martinis. Gorgeous.

Do you read much mainstream fiction?

Yes, I do. Although since I’ve been writing full time, I find I’m not reading as much. Also my husband died earlier this year and that’s zapped my concentration badly. I can’t settle with a book to relax, the way I used to. It’ll come back… It’s just not there at the moment.

What hair or skin coloring attracts you most or do you use in your books?
I have a real thing for dusky skinned men. So beautiful. And I like black hair on men. Lots of it. I hate number one cuts on men. I think they look disgusting. My heroine always has red hair though. J I love being a redhead myself.

Do you like jewelry on men?
Love it! I’m very partial to earrings on men. One, two, one ear, two ears, I don’t mind. I just love earrings in men. I like my men more ‘metro.’ I find it very sexy and sensuous. I also like bracelets, necklaces, rings. It’s all appealing. I don’t like piercings though.

What writer/writers have influenced your own writing style?
Undoubtedly, Noel Barber is one of my biggest influences. He wrote wonderful sweeping sagas. His characters enthralled me, his settling took me away. He was the most beautiful writer. I've had a copy of Tanamera ~ his saga set in Singapore since I lived there at eighteen. I read it every year and still absolutely love it. I get just as caught up in the life of the Dexters then, as I do now. Now THAT’S a great writer when a book stays with you!

Are you a plotter or pantser? Do you rely on the ‘Muses’ to write?
Complete pantser. LOL. I rely heavily on the Muses, who have been away in the Bahamas for the last six months! Little buggers! I included what they do in my latest short story…
Usually they turn up out of the blue, noisy and fervent. They slam into my brain, toss their tennis rackets in the corner, saying, “Gosh, that was jolly hot work, let me get a drink, then I’ll sit down and tell you a story.”
I generally just type like a mad woman as they talk. Then abruptly they stop. I’ll look up from my keyboard and hours have literally gone past.
I described my process to Matthew Peters, a fellow Muse writer. It’s like doing a giant jigsaw puzzle for me. I have a rough idea what the finished picture will look like. I have the outline. (although I don’t write it down per se. I have rough notes that say things like: Charlie, pocket watch, Russia?? Alex, Niki, long red hair, leather pants.) Then I start piecing it together. I write anywhere and everywhere. I might write a sex scene here, a sex scene there. I might start halfway through a scene if it’s burning hot and bright in my brain. Get a dialogue piece down while it’s running clearly. Sometimes I write the end in the middle or at the beginning.
I write down whatever the Muses have for me. Then I start the read through, cutting and pasting pieces into continuity. The flow starts and I’m off again. Like doing a jigsaw, where you group pieces of similar subject together. You tend to have bits everywhere, then all of a sudden, you go ~ ooh, hang on, that bit joins up over here. And that bit goes here. You group a few more bits. Then 5 pieces sitting out in the middle of nowhere catch your eye and you realize they join that piece and that piece. It’s a very ‘organic’ process for me. It all works out in the end. J Every so often, I write through from start to finish… but not often.

Favorite spot in the world?
Kekaha Kai beach on the Big Island of Hawai’i. It never fails, that I go out there and unwind every tension in my body. It’s my go to place in my mind for peace.

Least favorite spot in the world?
Wasn't very keen on Egypt or the state of Michigan. Loved the people in Michigan, but the weather did my head in. J I nearly went completely mad out there. My good friend Kay Dee Royal is from there and one of the Lush and Blushers Alix Richards, but… that weather. NO. And Egypt’s energy felt jagged to me. I normally am not into ‘it was dirty.’ But the whole place felt like it was ‘grubby.’ I didn't enjoy Egypt as a place at all. I liked the things I saw there… but the energy of the place I disliked.
Lace, leather or denim?
I loved the combinations of lace and leather. Probably more lace. My winter clothes are mostly black and lots of lace. Very Victoriana. I never wear jeans. I’m a funny shape and they’re sooooooo uncomfortable. LOL.

Please tell us a little about yourself and where you're from? 3 things most people don’t know about you
I’m a romance erotica writer who writes steamy sultry deep love stories. I like romance and I want the explicit sex scenes as well in a book. I hate reading… and his zipper came down… Wow, that was the most amazing sex I’ve ever had in my life. Oy!! Where’s the yummy bit in the middle? I’ve been robbed! LOL. I think that love and sex, friendship and laughter are what it’s all about in relationships and I want my books to reflect that.
I’m a New Zealander born and bred, but have lived in the States on and off for 20 years. My home state is Hawai’i, I live in Kona on the Big Island when I'm there. I’m a real islander at heart. J Take me away from the smell of the sea and I go slightly bonkers. Hence, my sojourn in Modesto, CA is currently driving me a wee bit nuts. J I’m heading home (another home for me, I hope…) to New Orleans soon to live. All my books are set in that gorgeous soulful sultry city.
3 things you might not know about me:
I hate conventionality. I feel it’s my job in life to buck against the system and question authority. J
I have a great rollicking laugh I got from my mum. I often end up snorting ~ literally ~ with laughter.
Despite my unconventional demeanor, I have a great love of old traditions like roses, tea gardens, tea rooms and genealogy. My ideal house would have a tea room with all my beautiful chintz china laid out, flowery rose wallpaper, table cloths, silver and crystal, just ready for an afternoon tea party.

'Royalty' pattern ~ Chintz China, stacking teapot, cup and creamer

'Sweet Pea' Chintz China - Side plate, cup and saucer set

How long have you been writing?

Since I was a little kid. I wrote and ‘published’ my first book My Life when I was eleven about my parents divorce, complete with pictures. (I’m still doing that I realize with these blogs.) LOL.

Biggest non physical turn on in a lover i.e. brain, sense of humor, kind nature etc.

Their brain, kindness and caring, a gentleness of spirit.

What is your genre/s? Why do you write in these genres?

My genre is romance erotica. I write deep emotional love stories with steamy explicit sex. I usually weave in a past life to my stories, taken from my own past lives. I’ve always been fascinated by people’s love stories and reincarnation. It’s a natural combination for me. I write some m/f, but my main books in the Troika Love Series are m/m/f. It’s a committed troika or poly love story between Henry, Izzy and Charlie ~ three hearts entwined.

Russian Troika ~ Troika means 3 equal things. It's also a passionate Russian dance.

How do you find people generally react when you tell them what you write?
I’ve never had a negative reaction. Most people are absolutely fascinated. I think, like me, people are just generally fascinated by writers. It’s still one of those romantic professions to people. And I still find it a romantic way of life myself. I love it and I love what I write. I think because I accept it as a normal thing, other people do too.

What is something you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t tried yet?

The gorgeous tough as guts B-17 flying fortress bomber

Fly in a B-17 flying fortress or a Lancaster bomber. (I haven’t done it in this lifetime!)

Do you try and incorporate local things into your books – accents, food, drink etc. Are you in love with one locale?

Yes, as often as possible. I think it gives such a feeling of intimacy in a book. You feel like you’re THERE. Noel Barber, one of my favorite authors always set his books in fabulous locales. And you could FEEL France, Singapore, the South Sea Islands, or Egypt when he wrote. They entranced me. I set most of my stories in New Orleans, a city that has captured my heart and soul.

French Quarter - New Orleans

Sexy or sensible underwear?

Sexy! I only wear black sheer or lacy panties. And my bras are all Simone Perele, in the French line. Ultra comfortable and sooooooo pretty. Very sexy. I love wearing them. I always feel sensuous.

Simone Perele ~ French line. I have that green and orange bra... love it

Are your sex scenes explicit or fade to black?

Oh, explicit. LOL. I hate fade to black. I always feel utterly robbed and bereft. J I want the lovely sensuous details.

Do you enjoy writing the sex scenes?

Love them. I like being caught up in the imagery and feel of the scenes. I hope my readers will experience the gorgeous emotions and sensations I feel when I write them!

Best dessert ever  eaten?
Crème brulee always. My national dessert The Pavlova, a meringue marshmallowy ‘cake.’ Filled with whipped cream, fresh strawberries and Kiwifruit. Yummm. Perhaps hands down, the Chocolate Crunch Bars Alan Wong's makes.

New Zealand's national dessert - The Pavlova. Also known as 'A Pav'

Alan Wong's Chocolate Crunch Bars. I don't like chocolate much but these are heavenly

What’s your take on romance erotica versus porn or stroke?

Hate stroke. Bores me to tears. I want the romance, the love between the characters to come through. Sex without emotions just leaves me cold. That’s why I’m very specific when I say I write romance erotica, not porn.

What are the things that annoy you most about sex scenes?

When the scenes are couched in so much purple prose, I wonder if they’re decorating a cake. Give me the real words or the sexy words… that’s all part of the deliciousness of making love for me. But not the C word. Can’t STAND that word. In my country it’s worse than fuck. If you call someone the C word, it’s about the worst thing you can say to someone. So I NEVER use it in a sex scene.

Male hero alive or dead you’d most like to meet?
I’d love to meet Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., he’s one of my heroes. I’d also love to meet Sir Richard Branson, what a livewire of a person!! He’s amazing!

Sir Richard Branson ~ Love this man! He's fabulous

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ~ He was shot down in cold blood at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, TN on my birthday 4 April 1968. I was 5 years old.

Female heroine alive or dead you’d most like to meet?
Amelia Earhart. A woman who came up through a tough era of women’s history. She was a pilot when being a one was still not really ‘the done thing.’ Very gutsy, her own person.

Amelia Earhart ~ One of the women pilots that influenced me as a pilot.

Lelani Black ~ Multi-published romance erotica and sensual romance writer ~ often set in the beauitful Hawai'ian islands.

Aloha LELANI BLACK! Please give her a big aloha welcome everyone. Lelani is from beautiful Maui in our gorgeous Hawai'ian islands!

I've had the pleasure of reading some of Lelani's stories and they're captivating. Great characters, interesting settings. She has a natural flow to her stories and they grab you right off the bat. Naturally I love the ones set in my own home state of Hawai'i. :-) Love the one in Greece too!

She is a multi-published author of sensual romance and erotic romance fiction. I just wish she had some red hair or her skin had a burn time under 1 minute. I'd love her to be part of our Lush and Blush Club. She gave great answers and is really fun!! E komo mai Lelani. :-) Mahalo nui loa for being here with us this week!! :-)

Tell our readers a wee bit about yourself. What are 5 things you wished you’d done, have done or are still to do, on the Bucket List? J

1. Travel and have more adventures with my husband who's visited many different parts of the world.

2. Ski a Black Diamond with my husband someday, if I'm ever skilled enough. I'm hard core Green Run and bunny hill talent, woot-woot!

3. I want to soar above a rainforest on a zipline.

4. Retire someday to a comfortable           treehouse in a Hawaiian jungle (no snakes or predatory animals there!)

5. It's my dream to see all of my books published. I’m living part of that dream now, so every day of this publishing journey has given me fulfillment in some form or another. Whether it’s sales, or good reviews, or a work that has significant meaning doing well out there in the marketplace.

Just had to put this one up, because it has the lovely Lelani and I just LOVE this cover. So home!

Tell us about the genre you write, why do you love it and how did you get into it?

My genre of choice is sensual romance, to include the sub-genre of Erotica / Erotic Romance fiction. Writing about the dynamics and chemistry of two individuals who meet and fall in love, then taking their physical and emotional attraction to explicitly hot levels is an adventure in itself.

I think my enjoyment and interest in travel, past and present, and people, fuels my creativity. I also grew up in one of the most beautiful and romantic places on the planet—Hawaii, and Hawaii is chock full of hot guys! (Where I met my husband, too)

How I got into writing… When you grow up not having a lot in terms of material things, and in a strict and religious family environment, reading about what other people are doing is a great escape tool. While I grew up enjoying many different genre of literature, romance appealed to me the most.

What’s your most favorite restaurant in the world? Where, why and the best dish/es they make?

Way too many to list, but will try! I’ve eaten in restaurants by the sea, by a cliff, in a serene island valley, at the top of a ski mountain. My current favorite restaurant is Mediterranean Bistro, and they have a thick grilled steak heaped with yummy things like artichokes, and/or a chicken with apricots dish, and glazed young carrots with their green tops still attached--my mouth waters just thinking about it. Oh, and they make this wonderful peartini cocktail, with the rim of the glass crusted with delicious green sugar crystals.

Peartini Cocktail ~ Yum!!!

Remember those ads for Expedia that asked, ‘If you could go anywhere in the world, but have to go right now?’ Where would you have gone and would you have said to YES to right now?

Scotland, Ireland, England--the United Kingdom. What pulls and entices you to that country? A desire to see castles (not something you see every day in the tropics), to explore the country, history, the foods, the pubs, and to connect with people from the UK.

What parts of you, are incorporated into your characters?

*Smiling* How they can mess stuff up without planning to, maybe? I think… I would say traits that I admire in these women would be their resourcefulness, sensuality, sassiness and sense of humor. They’ve had their own life experiences that shaped them and their story, so I’m not sure I can claim too much.

Lelani knows how to paddle herself out of hot water!

Favorite male hero/public figure you admire in the world, dead or alive, and why?

It’s hard for me to name just one person as there have been many male figures I’ve admired over the years who’ve contributed to society in terms of their creative art, music, literature, leadership and/or being a humanitarian.

Favorite female heroine/public figure you admire in the world, dead or alive, and why?

This one is easier to answer. I have to give a shout out to my mother because she is one of the bravest, wisest, most upbeat women I know. She lived through wartime occupation in the Philippines and, with limited education, found work at Dole Cannery in Hawaii, and retired from there. She’s also been a single (widowed) mother with 5 kids. It wasn’t easy for her, but she showed me what having a strong work ethic means.

Have you ever had a character just “do their own thing?” Have you ever had an argument with one of your characters? Or anything else odd happen?

Oh, yes. These characters say things that weren’t in the script. Unexpected scenes are often created from dialogue, tension and events that unfold in the story. It’s a great feeling for a writer to see their storyline playing itself out.

What’s your passion in life?

Writing specifically, as it is something I own, something I enjoy whether I get paid for it or not, whether relatives or family support my passion or not. Luckily my family supports whatever makes me happy.

What’s your writer’s routine? Do you write whenever or at certain times? Are you a pantser or plotter? Where do you like to write?

When I’m in full throttle, let’s say I’m writing a story meant to submit to my publisher, I can write from dawn up into the dead of night. The house can be on fire and I’ll keep working. Between projects, I’m not so ambitious. I like to do a synopsis of the story to capture a certain theme, or tone, and to establish that I do have a story that includes goals, motivations, conflicts and character growth by the end of the book.

I write in a family room/den with bookcases filled end to end with books. There’s a stone fireplace and French doors that lead out to a patio shaded by a pergola, and a maple tree, and surrounded by lilac hedges.

If you could pick a past life, what time period would appeal to you and why?

Ancient Rome. Would you be male or female? Female, because women were probably treated somewhat decently in this civilization of wealth and power. And, Roman baths would indicate there was an awareness of hygiene!

Rich or poor?

Uh… I’ve been poor, so I’d be happy to give Rich in Ancient Rome a go.
